Every year, over 28 million adults are diagnosed with some variation of anxiety disorder. Still, it is important to make a distinction between feeling anxious and what constitutes an anxiety disorder. Feeling anxious is normal. We become anxious when we desire to understand ourselves or the world around us. However, when these desires to understand lays claim on us, a disorder occurs. We become distressed. Some people may feel dread, isolation, or hopelessness, while others may experience desensitization, depression, or increased irritability. Anxiety disorders frequently lead to physical symptoms such as muscle pains, headaches, sweating, or nausea. Generally, anxiety disorder impedes our ability to manage everyday life and achieve the best version ourselves.
At Mindful Directions Counseling Center, our practitioners are trained to help clients reclaim ownership of life, potential, and meaningfulness. We employ a variety of strategies to not only help bring our clients face to face with their anxiety but equip them with the skills necessary to understand, interpret, and manage life’s stressors. Depending on the needs of our clients, we may incorporate deep breathing, guided imagery, and meditation, as well as thought awareness and thought challenging to therapy. Our mission is to provide co-constructed pathways with our clients that progresses from trying to understand who they are to proactively becoming who they long to be.
